Ray Shoemaker – Rural Healthcare Developers Founder

After an initial period as director of behavioral health, Ray was employed to start a behavioral health program at the Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville, MS. Within a month of starting the role he had set up and established a geri-psych unit and the department quickly grew to consist of 22 beds as well as Adult Chemical Dependency, Adolescent Chemical Dependency, and General Psychiatry Unit wards.
Because of his success at the Tri-Lakes health center, Ray Shoemaker was awarded the “Up and Comers” award by Modern Healthcare magazine. The award showcases some of the leading lights within the healthcare industry and especially talented leaders under the age of 40. As well as winning this prestigious award, Ray has also been dubbed the Turnaround King by the Memphis Business Journal for his performance in generating extra revenue for ailing centers. This was further highlighted when he was awarded a position in the Chief Operating Office and subsequently the Chief Executive Office of the Tri Lakes medical center; during his tenure, the center increased its revenue from $23m to $64m.
During his childhood in Hazel Grove, MS, Ray Shoemaker was made aware of the lack of decent healthcare facilities in many rural communities. In a bid to ensure that everybody, even those that do not live in major cities and urban centers, are able to gain access to the healthcare that they deserve and require.
